National My Social Security Week
Annual National My Social Security Week is to educate and encourage folks to register for a My Social Security account. As a My Social Security Account holder, you will have access to online Social Security services, anytime.
Why should you register for a My Social Security Account?
For those who do not currently receive benefits:
- Request a replacement Social Security card if you meet certain requirements
- Get your Social Security Statement, to review estimates of your future retirement, disability, and survivor benefits, plus your earnings once a year to verify if the amounts posted are correct
- The estimated Social Security and Medicare taxes you’ve paid
- Request a benefits verification letter that states you never received Social Security benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Medicare, or that you received benefits in the past, do not currently receive them and that you applied for benefits but haven’t received an answer yet
For those who currently receive benefits or have Medicare:
- Request a replacement Social Security card if you meet certain requirements
- Get your benefits verification letter
- Check your benefit and payment information and your earnings record
- Change your personal information such as address and phone number
- Start or change direct deposit of your benefits payment
- Get a replacement Medicare card
- Get a replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S for tax season
When you are my Social Security account holder, you will fully understand the importance and value of planning for your future. Share this understanding with your friends and family, colleagues and neighbors.
